History
The roots of Balıkesir University can be traced back to the Karesi Teacher Training School, established in 1910. With the special attention of Mustafa Necati Bey, Minister of National Education at the time, this school moved to the building that currently serves as the Necatibey Faculty of Education in 1932 and was renamed Necatibey Teacher Training School. Necatibey Teacher Training School continued to train teachers under the name Necatibey Education Institute between 1932 and 1982. In 1981, it was revoked from its three-year status and converted to a four-year "Higher Teacher Training School." In 1982, it was affiliated with Uludağ University, which was renamed Necatibey Faculty of Education. Similarly, with Statutory Decree No. 41 of 1982, other higher education institutions in Balıkesir were incorporated: Balıkesir School of Business Administration and Tourism became Balıkesir School of Tourism Management and Hotel Management, and Balıkesir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture was incorporated into Uludağ University under the name Balıkesir Faculty of Engineering. Balıkesir Vocational School, another institution affiliated with Uludağ University, continued its activities under the same name. These institutions, which remained under the umbrella of Uludağ University for ten years, established a strong infrastructure for Balıkesir University through healthy and stable development. Balıkesir University was established pursuant to Law No. 3837, published in the Official Gazette No. 21281 dated July 11, 1992, and acquired legal personality on January 1, 1993.
